Darnell Devone Leysath

Darnell DeVone Leysath was born on July 24th to Rhonda and Robbie at the tender ages of 16 & 17. As a child, he grew up in the Bronx and often frequented Crown Heights, Brooklyn, with plenty of family in close reach.

He attended P.S. 87 & M.S. 113 during his elementary & middle school years. He then ventured off to attend Evander Childs High School. During high school, Darnell began to discover different things about himself. He excelled as a football player on the Evander Childs football team for several years. In addition to being an athlete, he had an undying love for animals. He owned several snakes, lizards, iguanas, & dogs over the years and took pride in each and every one of them. His love for animals was a small testament of a gentle soul in the body of a giant. Darnell was also a creative who loved to draw. He had a way of bringing his ideas, as well as the ideas of others to life. His mind was truly extraordinary and something we wish that many more people got the chance to experience.

As an adult, Darnell was employed by Montefiore Hospital for several years, following in the footsteps of both of his parents. While this was a great accomplishment, there would be one to later top this. In 2016, Darnell met the love of his life, his fiancé, Dominique. They were together until the time of his passing and were set to marry in 2023. Even while facing struggles, it was clear to many of us the amazing man he was growing into and the love for not only his current family, but the new family dynamic they were creating as well. Even with this being said, Darnell was still a TRUE mama’s boy and grandma's boy. He took great pride in checking on his Grandma Fran and mother Rhonda quite often, and they did the same for him.

God called our beloved Darnell home on February 3, 2023. When he left this world, it felt as though time stopped. Hearts were broken and there were many questions of, “Why”. But, please, do not question why. Find solace in the fact that Darnell is now resting in the arms of our Lord and savior. He would want us to live life to the fullest and be as great as we can be while keeping his memory alive and well.

Darnell is survived by his parents, Robbie and Rhonda; Fiancé, Dominique; Siblings, Briia, Corey, Kashawn, Marquis, Kevin and Freddie; Grandparents, Frances and Mary as well as many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins & friends who loved him dearly.
