Tensyl Valentine Hortense Jones, affectionately known as “Manda or Ms. Tensie,” passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Tensyl was born on March 2, 1929, in Jamaica, West Indies to parents Luther and Geraldine McFarlane. She attended the Cairn Curran elementary school and was a member of the Cairn Curran Holiness Church. She taught Sunday school and was very good playing the manually pumped organ on Sundays and during the week. Tensyl was a track and field athlete, and she was very good at it. With a winning trophy to show, she bragged to her children and grandchildren that “no one could beat her when she was in school.” Tensyl was also a very good artist that could free sketch anything that caught her creative mind, a talent that was passed on to a few of her children and grandchildren. Tensyl met Wesley Jones in 1956 and the two were married on June 30, 1957, until his death on March 8, 2006. They raised 10 children, 30 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Tensyl migrated to the United States of America in 1980. She went back to school and earned her Certified Nurses Aide certificate. Tensyl worked at Laconia Nursing Home as a CNA for 20-years. She retired and moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and later went to live with her daughter, Michelle Jones-Marsden, in Frisco, Texas.
Tensyl was an avid wrestling fan. She enjoyed watching the sport with her husband, before his passing, and her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed singing, baking, cooking big meals for her family gatherings, knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and sudoku.
