On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Rosemary Clarke, also known as Maxcine Aaron, passed away suddenly after a brief and brave struggle with pancreatic cancer. Lovingly known as “Maxcine,” she was born in the Caribbean nation of Antigua on December 23, 1950, and courageously immigrated to the United States in 1985 to provide a better life for her family.
In her beloved home of Antigua, Maxcine’s early years were surrounded by family and raising her children. She loved her kids dearly and always had them as her North Star, guiding Maxcine’s decisions, and her path forward.
As an honest, hard-working, loving mother of nine, Maxcine quickly found work in Bronxville, NY, as a nanny to a few lucky families, with whom she spent many years and forged close relationships with parents and children alike. She was revered and adored in her new, “small town” where she spent nearly four decades “raising up” the children as she would often say. Maxcine had the kindest way about her that immediately instilled trust and confidence in her as a person with everyone she met.
In addition to her role as a trusted caregiver, Maxcine enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church and prayer services, shopping at Macy’s, enjoying a special meal with loved ones, and excitedly watching wrestling on television.
Maxcine was predeceased by daughter, Sandra Brumant; son, Alec Brumant; and her parents, Dennis Clarke and Vionie Henry.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, WentWorth “Wenty” Aaron; children: Winston Aaron, Beverly (Tropeano) Pelle, Lisa Pilgrim, Rev. Pauline A. Glenn, Davalyn Aaron, Carl Jason Clarke and Devlon Aaron; 14 grandchildren: Beth ‘Blair’ Aaron, Gabrielle Pelle, Shetonna Christian, Packesha (Alex) Irozuru, Joey Pelle, Tyonna Aaron, Raphael Brumant, Summer Brumant, Malik Aaron, Kristin Goodison, Devlon Aaron, Gaynelle Pelle, Gizelle Pelle, and Deondre Pilgrim; six great-grandchildren: Terrelle Duncan, Zyan Aaron, Klayton Irozuru, Ariya Washington, Malia Aaron, and Zayne Pieters; siblings: Maurice Clarke, Larna Sibastian, Alwick (Brendalie) Francis, Condacie Cornelius, Norris Henry, Marvet (Foster)Williams, Dwana (Ryan) Dailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
Finally, Maxine was the epitome of a good person and her faith in the Lord carried her through some of life’s greatest challenges until the end. She was faithful and loyal to her beliefs and her legacy can be seen in her own children, grandchildren, and all those she had a hand in raising. When thinking of Maxine and her impact on all she loved, the words of renowned poet Maya Angelou the book, Rainbow in the Cloud: The Wisdom and Spirit of Maya Angelou come to mind. “Stand up straight and realize who you are, that you tower over your circumstances. You are a child of God. Stand up straight.” May Maxine’s lessons live on in our hearts and actions forever.
