Peggy Mckinney

March 31, 1941 — October 4, 2021

Willie Frances McKinney was born to the late Christine Jones in Talladega, Alabama, on March 31, 1941.  To her family and friends, she was affectionately known as Peggy.

She was educated in New York City School System and attended College in the Bronx. Peggy and her brother Willie(Bill) were raised by their Grandparents, Dochie Grimes and Austin Davis, in Alabama until her Mother sent for them to come to New York. They lived in Jamaica, Queens, for many years before moving to the Bronx in the 1970s.  There Peggy raised 13 children as a single mother before meeting the love of her life Michael McKinney.

Peggy was a caring and loving mother who loved her children dearly and kept them close to her heart.  She loved to cook, journal and dress.  Peggy was a fashionable woman who loved her pocketbooks, and she had many of them.  She was a music lover and was always fully equipped with her blue tooth speaker.

Peggy was a long-time member of Green Pastures Church located in the Bronx, NY, where she served as an Usher and Choir member for over 30 years under the late Rev. Roger Hambrick, Sr.  She was a calm and serene servant in the church.  Peggy was a caretaker, home health aid, and was an extra in the ‘Law in order’ tv show.  A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Sister, Friend, and confidant.  Some would say a social butterfly.  She loved to sit in the Bronx River Park and take in the beauty of nature, and share stories of the past with friends in the park.  She would also sit in front of the building where she resided and talk to neighbors.  She would share wisdom with all whom she met.

Peggy leaves to cherish her memory, her brother Willie(Linda); 11 of 13 children, Lawrence Sanders(Ivy), Christine Sanders(Jeff), Francine Vernon, Cynthia Garcia( Angelo) deceased, Suzette Nedd, Peggy Sanders(Lindsey), Eugene Sanders, Kim Sanders, Warren Sanders, Brian Sanders(deceased), Venus Sanders(David), Nicole Sanders, and our heavenly brother and host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Peggy departed this earth on October 4 in the comfort of her home.
