Nicole “Big Momma” Murphy was born January 24, 1973, in Brooklyn NY. She was the youngest of two children from the late Alice Mae Gilyard and the middle child of the late Bloss Murphy. Nicole attended the New York City Public School system. At a young age she gave her life to Christ at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Murray.
Nicole was known for her big heart and always helping people in need and Nicole always took people in no matter the circumstances. Big Momma was loved by so many. She made a statement everywhere she resided from Brooklyn (Bed-Stuy, Flatbush, Coney Island) and even all the way upstate in Syracuse New York everyone loved Big Momma. She’s showed genuine maternal love to anyone that encountered her and needed that love rather through instinct or because you might have shown you needed it; she was there. The only price you had to pay was either to love her back or give that same love to someone who needed it. She was a single mom of four children, Nicole always made sure her kids never went without, one thing she didn’t play about was her children. She loved them dearly. Big Momma was a jokester, and she loved her old school music while she cooked cleaned or just wanted to jam out. Nicole loved to shop and couponing was something she loved to do.
She had a big heart, sometimes too big. But that was Big Momma. She was so loving and caring if you needed her, she was there.
Nicole is survived by her special Aunt Helen Newton (Auntie), her brother Trent Gilyard and wife Francine Gilyard and their children Ryan and Leslie Gilyard.
