Jose Martinez

Jose A. Martinez, also known as Arismendys, died due to complications from COVID-19 on February 24, 2021, at Montefiore Medical Center. He was born on April 19, 1955, in Gurabo Santiago, Dominican Rpublic. He's the son of Rafael Adolfo Martinez and Rosa Maria Polanco. He is a brother to his siblings Rafael Martínez, Salvador Martínez, José Antonio Martínez, Praxides Martínez, and Domingo Martínez and an uncle to many nieces, nephews as well as grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Jose graduated high school in the Bronx and worked for Montefiore Wakefield, formerly known as Our Lady of Mercy, for approximately 15 years.

He is survived by his wife for 29 years, Brunilda Martinez; his daughters, Rosemary Gapay and Diamales Martinez and his sons, Jose M. Martinez (Chelo) and Jacob Reyes. He lovingly has nine grandchildren - Emmary Jimenez, Justin Martinez, Jomari Martinez, Leah Gapay, Jennalyse Martinez, Sean Gapay Jr., Isabella Reyes, Jace Jose Martinez and Jaxon Martinez. Jose was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Jose struggled with diabetes and was next in line to receive a kidney. Even though he struggled with this, he still loved playing poker, roulette and back in the day - bowling. He also enjoyed listening to spanish music while spending time with his family.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 26 from 6:00pm-9:00pm at T. Carrillo Funeral Services on Bronx Boulevard in the Bronx. The service will begin at 7:00pm.
