Iris Banfulsam

December 27, 1942 — February 3, 2021

Iris Evelyn Brash was born December 22, 1943 in Savannah GA. She was the youngest child to her Mother and Father Wilhemina and Morris Brash. She has one surviving brother Anthony Brash and two deceased sisters Gloria Brash Boney and Patricia Ann Brash. Gloria Brash Boney died in 1972. Patricia died September 12, 1950. Iris graduated from Liberty High School from Savannah in 1962 and graduated from Harris Area Administrative business school in Savannah, GA.

Iris moved to New York in 1962. Iris applied and took the civil service exam and worked as administrative assistant for the City of New York, until she retired in 1987. Iris moved to Brooklyn in 1968, and it became her beloved home. She gained many friends, including one who became her sister Omalua . Iris got married and her last name became Banfulsam. Iris lived near Prospect Park and loved it. She enjoyed going to the park for the drummer circle, feeding the pigeons and squirrels.

Iris sister friend Omalua had children, and Iris is the Godmother to Olubunmi, Omolade, Jolayemi, Ayijde and Mame Djarra

Ever since iris was a child, she became enthusiastic about the motherland Continent of Africa. She read many African papiers and books and went to Ghana in 1988. Upon landing in Ghana, Iris felt she was home and bowed to the ground to touch the soil in the country.

Iris loved  going to the drummer circle in prospect park in Brooklyn and St. Nicholas park in Harlem.

Iris made her transition in Brooklyn while in Downstate Hospital in Brooklyn on February 2 nd , 2021. She leaves to mourn many friends and relatives. Such as, her brother Anthony Brash, nephew Ronald Brash, Gwendlolyn Boney (Niece) Robert Boney (Nephew) Terrence Boney (Nephew). In addition, grand nieces Charlotte, Chanta, Danisha, Chadanania, Calia, Asia and Tonaye
