In Loving Memory of Ingrid Maria Nicholson
Ingrid Maria Nicholson was born on May 24, 1951 at St. Andrew’s Hospital in Kingston,
Jamaica. She was born to Muriel and Albert Nicholson and is the older sister of one
sibling, Pablita (June) Nicholson. She was raised in St. Andrew, Jamaica and attended
St. Georges Elementary school, after which she attended Waulgrove High School in
Kingston, Jamaica. She also participated in Girls Guides (Scouts) group during her
childhood .
Ingrid, a vibrant and carefree soul, passed away at the age of 72 on November 16,
2023, leaving behind a legacy of joy, love, and warmth. She was a beacon of positivity,
known for her infectious smile and unwavering spirit.
She emigrated to the Bronx, New York bringing with her the vibrant energy of the
Caribbean. Her zest for life was reflected in the way she embraced her new home, and
she quickly became an integral part of the community. In 1993 she got married to
Manuel Dacosta and they produced a beautiful son, Enrique DaCosta. They were able
to raise him together into the great young man he has become today.
Professionally, Ingrid worked at Verizon as an exemplary employee and proceeded to
have a successful 40 years with the company. She approached her work with
dedication and a tireless work ethic, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues
and peers. During her time at Verizon, she also obtained a Degree in Nursing from
Bronx Community College.
Upon her retirement she spent a lot of time with the many children of the family,
including her nieces, nephew, as well as her great nieces and great nephews.
Christmas was a special and favorite holiday where she became Mrs. Claus to all who
knew her. She spread joy in so many ways and was able to get every single person,
adults and children alike, the perfect gift that you never even expected. She always
knew exactly what to get.
A true fashionista, Ingrid had an innate sense of style that she effortlessly carried with
her on her shopping adventures. Her love for exploring the latest trends and finding
unique treasures brought her immense joy. Whether strolling through local boutiques or
hunting for bargains, she shared her passion for fashion with family and friends.
In addition to her love for shopping, Ingrid was dedicated to maintaining a healthy and
active lifestyle. Her commitment to working out not only kept her physically fit but also
served as an inspiration to those around her. She demonstrated that age was no barrier
to staying active and enjoying life to the fullest. Ingrid also had a love for the seniors in
her community and had much enjoyment in volunteering at the local Senior Center.
Beyond her personal interests, Ingrid was a source of joy to everyone she encountered.
Her generosity, kindness, and genuine concern for others endeared her to friends and
family alike. She had a remarkable ability to spread positivity in any room she was in
and uplift those in her presence.
Ingrid has now moved on to the spiritual world, having her loving son by her side in her
last moments on earth. As we bid farewell to Ingrid Maria Nicholson, let us remember
the lessons she imparted, the love she gave, and the joy she brought into our lives.
Though she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all
who were touched by her warmth and compassion. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Ingrid is survived by her son, Enrique DaCosta, sister Pablita (June) Nicholson, nieces
Tamara McCants and Malika Foreman, nephew Kimani Foreman, and cousins along
with her many “adopted” sons and a host of other family, friends, and loved ones. Her
memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
