Harold Thomas James was born in St. Charles, South Carolina on June 11,1945. He was born
to parents Rosa Lee and Robert James. Although Harold was born in the country, he was
raised in the Bronx, New York where he was lovingly known as “Bobby.” It was here where
Bobby attended and graduated from the Bronx Vocational High School. He was an avid athlete
who had dreams of becoming a football player. Bobby didn’t become an athlete; he did,
however, become a proficient black belt of karate.
Bobby soon found work as a delivery man. It was on one of his routes where he stumbled upon
Parkchester. He thought he was in another borough, and he quickly fell in love with the
community. He vowed to one day live there and was determined to accomplish this goal. He
became a motor man for the Metropolitan Transit Authority, and he was able to become a part of
the Parkchester community. Bobby held this position for over 25 years and later also held a
supervisory position for a security company. He then in his later years was able to run a bar in
the community that he held dear, and as a result his community respected and loved him back.
This would be his last working position before he decided to retire and enjoy the fruits of his
labor.
Bobby was a lover of life, women, food, and travel. He was full of energy and traveling was a
huge part of Bobby’s life. On his travels he would explore his love of photography, and
document his time through the lens. He had many other hobbies such as pool, chess, and
checkers. He always created a fun and loving atmosphere for himself and everyone around
him.
Bobby has now taken his final journey home to with his mother, father and his six brothers and
sisters who proceeded him in death. Bobby leaves behind to mourn two sisters: Jean Beasley
and Rosalyn Prunty, as well as three God daughters; Denice Ross, Jamara Carrington and
Ashley Anderson and one God son Dijon Singleton-James. He also leaves behind a host of
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bobby was a big man with a big heart. He enjoyed everything to the fullest and wanted all his
loved ones to experience life and take advantage of all it had to offer as well. He will be missed
tremendously and will be honored by the ones he leaves behind, by living as he did, to the
fullest.
