Giovanny Antonio Acevedo

August 12, 1962 — November 24, 2020

Hello, my name is Anamaria, these are my last words and thoughts of Giovanny Antonio Acevedo.
Giovanny was born on August 12, 1962. He was the 3rd child from Arili Betty Reed and Luis Angel Acevedo, and the 6th child in siblings. He was known as Barney/Barnaby all his life, it's what his momma called him.
He didn't have an easy life growing up because he was a sickly child with asthma, but he was strong and stubborn and pushed himself to have a good enough life with his health. He put his heart and soul into everything he did to succeed. He loved watching sports and loved playing it more, especially his football. Didn't care what the weather was outside, he was out there playing football having fun and loving it.
Like I said , Barney struggled all his life with his health and more with his thoughts in his future. He always tried to be a better person and bring that out in everyone he knew and related to. He wanted a lot out of his life and tried to settle with what he was able to have. Sometimes it was enough sometimes it wasn't but he fought hard at it.
Once he wanted to become a police officer and because of a failed hearing test he wasn't able to fill that dream. He didn't take that as a negative experience thou, it pushed him harder and kept pushing him forward. He accomplished that with another opportunity working at the CUNY college of optometry in Manhattan . He started out as a custodian and worked his way up to supervisor of maintenance. For 19 years he devoted himself to become a respected person at his employment. During that period in his life , he met Hazel Hill , with whom they had 2 very handsome sons, Jahari and Rasheed. His relationship with Hazel was another serious milestone in his life and together they started another chapter with their own stories....
I've known Barney for close to 38 years. I was married to him and had 2 sons with him. Our marriage didn't last as long as we both wished it would have, and our relationship was strained harden and very hurtful for years, but what separation is easy? What divorce ends pleasant? None that I'm aware of, but we worked it out and still remained close and the love was still there , for our children and grandsons. Even when he had relationships and had more children , I loved them all because they were his and he was a good father. He loved his children. Barney was a strong believer in family and the love of family.
He got to finally have a strong relationship with his oldest son, he always had one with him, it was just more because they got to speak more as men, as adults. And that made Barney so happy to have that.
Barney loved his children, and I'm going to keep repeating myself with that because it's what he always said and told me. They were all his accomplishments...Giovanni , Louis , Evangelina , Arty, Steven ,Kimberly ,Bree , Jahari and Rasheed ... all his grandchildren too...
Giovanni Jr., Louis Jr., Joel , Dominick , Cattleya , Maurice , Alexander , Angela , Luke, Josiah , Amari and Imani. All his babies.
Now I come to the end of my thoughts and last words of a wonderful man. My first love and my first broken heart. A wonderful man who left an imprint in the hearts of a lot of people.
Regretfully I have to include that he, Giovanny Antonio Acevedo , took his last breath ,on November 24, 2020. No more suffering, no more pain, no more struggles. He will be missed dearly by his children, grandchildren, remaining siblings , Gilda , Harry , Yazmyn, Luis and ulrich . All his loving nephews , nieces, cousins ,aunts and uncles, in-laws, and dear friends
