Geraldine Duncan Swift was born Geraldine “Dean” Duncan on May 4, 1946, to the late Thaddeus and Inez Duncan of Aliceville, Alabama. She lived a joyful, humble, and fulfilling life. Growing up with a big family, she was very family-oriented, and this aspect remained prominent throughout her life.
She graduated from R.J. Kirksey High School in 1964 in her hometown. She had a strong attachment to her hometown and family, which she regularly visited during her life. She moved to New York City and raised three children, Cristal, Jonathan, and Heather Swift. She was married to Fred Swift in 1965 until his untimely death. Together they founded The Church of God’s Divine Mission in Christ in the Bronx, NY, and she was one of the last founding members.
Being a pivotal person in her community, not only did she serve her local community through her church, but she was also a social worker and ensured she fostered a positive environment in any path she crossed. She retired in 2005, enjoyed her retirement with her significant other, Bill, and took on several real estate ventures. Together, they traveled the world, went to casinos, played lottery numbers, took long drives to explore the city, and enjoyed seafood. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandkids. Birthday parties, cookouts, and holiday gatherings took place at her home. She will remain the strength that holds our family together no matter what or where we are in life. That mommy, grandma, or great-grandma was at 1172 Ogden Avenue and was there to support us in life.
Geraldine Swift, 76, peacefully transitioned at her residence on Saturday, May 21, 2022.
Geraldine was survived by her children, Jonathan and Heather, and her daughter in heaven, Cristal.
