Frances Colvil

July 13, 1947 — February 6, 2021

Frances Colvil was born in Brooklyn, NY, born to Rosena Jones-Singleton
and the late George Singleton, Sr. Frances grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She was the third
born of 9 children, in which 7 of her siblings preceded her in death. She attended NYC
elementary and middle school, went on to graduate from Roosevelt High School and
attended Mercy College in the Bronx.

Frances met and married the late Julian Colvil, Sr. on March 4th 1967. Frances &
Julian resided in the Bronx, NY, where they raised their 4 children. The first born of that
union were twin daughters, Yullette & Yvette. One year later, they welcomed their first
born son, Sean and lastly, their youngest son, Julian, Jr.

Frances loved to travel, traveling all around Europe and the Caribbean islands. She
was also all about family. And family did not have to be blood related to her. She came
from a large family and became the Matriarch, hosting family reunions and gatherings to
try to keep the family connected and was so loved by her family. Frances was
extremely generous and giving. Her home was the place for many family and friends in
need of a place to stay or a deliciously prepared hot meal. Frances was well-known for
her cooking. She loved to cook for people and her dishes were the request of everyone
throwing a party or just craving her endless specialty dishes. She had a big heart and
personality and was loved by many. Although she was a generous, fun-loving, life of
the party, she was one that would tell it like it is, but spoke it in love (most of the time).
To know Frances, was to love her. She was the best mother, wife, daughter, sister,
aunt and friend.

Frances had always been a praying woman and realized her need to repent, and give
her life to Christ, in which she did in 2006. In 2006, she became a member of Love
Gospel Assembly, formerly located on the Grand Concourse, Bx, NY, where she
attended Bible study classes to grow in the knowledge, understanding and application
of God’s Word.
Frances had a strong work ethic and worked as a bank teller, a Nursing Assistant and
lastly, as a proud NYC, U.S. Postal Worker until she retired and moved to Athens,
Georgia 12 years ago to be closer to her youngest son, Julian & family.

On February 6th, 2021, another great chapter in God’s book came to an end. Frances
went home to be with The Lord. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her 4 adult
children; twin daughters, Yullette Pedro and Yvette Trotman, sons, Sean and Julian, Jr.,
her mother, Mrs. Rosena Singleton, five grandsons; Corey, Jamal, Trevor, Sr., Jonathan
and Douglas, Jr., three granddaughters; Tionna, Tori, and Nadiva, 2 great
grandchildren; Trevor, Jr. and Makaila, sister, Darlene, aunt Dorothy Shirley, cousins,
nieces, nephews and a host of extended family & friends. Frances will be terribly missed
and forever loved and remembered. Sleep in peace, mommy!
