*Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the moring. Psalms 30:5
Clovis Pauline Joseph was born on the beautiful island of Antigua on February 20, 1943 to
the late Irine Reid and Peter Joseph. She was the youngest of four children. She departed this
life on Thursday, November 25, 2021 in Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y.
Clovis attended Girls School and Christ the King High School in Antiqua. After graduation she
worked at Sybil's Restaurant with her aunt. She was a very quiet girl who went to church
often with her grandmother. She loved traveling and singing when she was younger. Later
Clovis migrated to St. Croix, U.S.V.I. where she lived and worked for a short period of time
until coming to New York in 1977 where she resided in the Bronx for over 40 years. She went
to Nursing School and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and worked at Grand
Manor and Hebrew Nursing Homes until she retired.
In July 1987, she gave birth to her son Troy who became the center of her universe. And then
in January 2017 her grandson Avon was born and wrapped her heart around his finger; her
joy was complete. There was nothing she would not do for them. When her health began to
fail three years ago, Troy became her home health aide and lovingly took care of her. There
was never a greater love between mother, son and grandson.
Clovis was a passionate fan of the New York Yankees baseball team. Her family says that she
was not your average fan but she would intently "coach" every game from the comfort of her
home. No one was allowed to interrupt her game time. If you tried to talk to her she would
say "Leave me alone, the Yankee game is on." She also enjoyed listening to the music of Willie
Nelson, Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie. Clovis was a loving person and was always willing to
help any family member that needed assistance. Above all, she was a devoted mother and
grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving son Troy Joseph of Bronx, N.Y.;
grandson Avon Joseph; special nephew Vaughn Destin of Fla.; special grandnephew Quammi
Richards of Bronx, N.Y.; sister Heather Henry of St. Croix, U.S.V.I.; brother Vivian Joseph of St.
Croix, U.S. V.I.; sister-in-law Primrose Joseph of St. Croix, U.S.V.I.; and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
