Carmen S Phillips

Our beloved Carmen Sheron Phillips was born on a beautiful sunny morning on March 14, 1967 at Princess Margaret Hospital in St. Thomas, Jamaica.  She was ushered into the world in the loving arms of her mother Clarice and her father Egerton.  As the ninth of ten children, this funny, cheerful, affectionate woman was a daughter, sister, mother and grandmother.

She spent her formative years attending Chetolah Park Primary School in Kingston, Jamaica.  In 1980 at the tender age of 12, she migrated to New York.  Carmen attended Junior High School 22 Gustave Straubenmuller in the Lower East Side. She later attended Mount Vernon High School followed by Monroe College.  She received her Dental Assistant Certificate in 1998 from Tecnico Dent and worked as a Dental Assistant for the past 20 years.

Cooking was something Carmen really enjoyed. Her favorite foods were curry chicken back, stew peas and sorrel.  Her sorrel wine was one of the best and she always made enough for large family gatherings.  Carmen was a loving and caring person who would stop by with food or to cook for her mother and grandchildren.

Carmen left us all too soon on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at the age of 54.  Our Lord plucked this beautiful rose for his bouquet, to join her predeceased father Egerton Phillips and brother Clive Phillips.

Carmen is survived by her mother Clarice Philips, her five children (Antoine, Donald, Sherona, Joseph and LaToya), her grandchildren (Nahjaé, Mia, Neriah, Antoine C., Elijah, Layla, Layden, Layloni and an extra blessing on the way), her eight siblings (Edward, Sonia, Valda, Steffion, Fay, Clifton, Wakelyn and Lenn), and her partner Owen Bryan.  She is also mourned by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Words cannot express how deeply Carmen will be missed by those who knew and loved her.  Gone but never forgotten, may her soul rest in peace.
