Barbara Jean Taylor departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 22,
2024, at Fieldstone Lodge Care Center in Bronx, NY.
Barbara Jean Taylor was born on February 8, 1948, in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North
Carolina, to the late Herman O. Taylor and Grace Ann Miller Taylor. After completing the 9th
grade in Charlotte, Barbara moved to New York City, where she graduated from high school.
Shortly after, she earned an Associate’s Degree from Hostos Community College. It was in New
York that she met the father of her only child, and together they had a beautiful daughter,
Simone Arielle March, born on July 16, 1989.
Barbara was employed at Equitable Financial Life Insurance Company, where she met some of
her closest, lifelong friends. The bonds she formed there were a testament to her warmth,
loyalty, and the joy she brought into the lives of others. Barbara developed a lifelong passion for
helping others. She found her calling as a paraprofessional with the Department of Education,
dedicating her career to supporting both students and teachers. Barbara began her work on
September 1, 1992, and became a cherished member of the school community. Known for her
boundless patience, kindness, and unwavering commitment, she went above and beyond to
ensure that every child she worked with received the care, attention, and encouragement they
needed to succeed. Her nurturing presence and heart for service made her a beloved figure in the
schools she served until June 2021.
Beyond her work, Barbara had a deep love for sewing and spent many beautiful, intricate pieces.
She also had a passion for travel, visiting many parts of the world, enhancing her life with
diverse experiences and a broader understanding of different cultures.
Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Simone; her parents, Herman O. Taylor Grace
Ann Miller Taylor, and her beloved siblings, Catherine T. Steele, and Grace Paulette Taylor.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Paul Taylor, his wife Betty Taylor, her sister, Stephanie T.
Daniel, four nieces, four nephews, many great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as her
goddaughter Quam Jones and granddaughter Quinise Armstrong, who were dear to her heart.
Barbara's family, friends, and colleagues will always remember her for her selflessness,
compassion, and dedication to improving the lives of those around her. She was truly a light in
the lives of everyone she touched, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, love, and commitment to
making the world a better place—one student at a time.
