André Jacques Jean-Baptiste was born on October 10, 1949 to Carmel Léa Lochard and M.
Joseph André Jean-Baptiste in Port-au Prince, Haïti. The middle boy of 5 brothers, he lived in
Haiti until he immigrated to the United States in October 1970. Growing up, he went by the
name of Jacques given to him by his godfather, Jacques Roger Jean-Baptiste who was also his
uncle. In the US, they have considered André as the first name and Jacques as a middle name.
As a young boy, André Jacques enjoyed soccer and was also a member of the boy scouts at St.
Louis de Gonzague school. He was an active member of the Youth Club “Rallye de l’Effort”
(Effort Rallying), grouping several youths to learn the values of living in a striving society to
improve their knowledge and social values.
André Jacques worked as a parking attendant manager at Morningside Garage in upper
Manhattan for 40 years. He loved his job and took pride in his service. A great leader at work,
he treated all with kindness and was always ready to extend a helping hand. He was loved,
admired, and respected by all who came to know him.
After six months of courtship, in the late 1970’s, André Jacques married the love of his life,
Francisca Reyes Jean-Baptiste. André Jacques and Francisca would spend forty-five years of
their lives together. They were blessed with two beautiful children Jacques Jean-Baptiste Jr. and
Apolonia Jean-Baptiste.
Love is always present when Jacques is around. He impacted the life of many, but you would
never hear him take credit for his good deeds. André Jacques enjoyed spending time with his
family, watching soccer, and enjoying the succulent meals prepared by his beloved wife. While
his mother was alive, he made it his duty to visit her every week. Once she transitioned, he
would always remember her birthday and bring flowers to the cemetery. He was knowledgeable
on ancient history and enjoyed watching the History Channel, and Sports channel especially
—wrestling, soccer. A doting grandfather, his eyes lit up each time he was in the presence of his
grandson Jacques Xavier Jean-Baptiste and the feeling was mutual.
His physical departure on the morning of January 9, 2022, in Teaneck, New Jersey, is a loss felt
by those nearby as well as those in Canada, France, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. He was
predeceased by his parents Carmel Léa and André Jean-Baptiste and his brothers, Gerard and
Louis Rene, as well as, his sister-in-law, Cecilia Jimenez, who was like a daughter to him.
André Jacques Jean-Baptiste’s legacy is carried by his wife Francisca, son Jacques (Junior),
daughter Apolonia; son-in-law Houston Brown; grandson Jacques Xavier and his mother Kelly;
two surviving brothers, Anthony, and Yves; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and
friends.
