Alvin Collins Iii

August 23, 1968 — November 26, 2020

Alvin Collins III, at the age of 52, passed away on November 26, 2020, the early morning of Thanksgiving. His death was unexpected and we are deeply saddened by his loss.

He planned on visiting his family that day to share in a Thanksgiving feast but God had other plans for him and called him home. We are comforted knowing he is with his mother and father in heaven.

Alvin was born on August 23, 1968 to Eleanore Bedford and Alvin Collins Jr. in Harlem. As a child, his mother gave him the nick-name “Man”. At that time, he was her little man of the house with 3 sibling girls to look after. He wore that name with a badge of honor for all of his siblings as our family began to branch out. He was that protective brother that dared anyone to mess with his family. We all truly meant that much to him until the day he passed on.

Man went to Alfred E. Smith High School in the Bronx with a career focus in Architect. He later decided to join the Army to serve his country and to travel around the world. After 2 years, he realized that the military was not where he wanted to be so he came back home to be with his family. Family is what he adored most. So much that he created his own. He fathered sons:Alvin, Calvin, and Chance. Daughters: Alveina, Carthenia, Destinee, Charisse, Tati’Yana, Ebony, Kayla, and Symphanie. He loved each and everyone of his children dearly and wanted nothing but the best for them. With 3 amazing boys and 8 beautiful girls, needless to say he was quite the ladies man in his day.

Although he had a serious exterior, he was a kind hearted, giving individual. Anyone who really knew him knew he was a special soul who loved hard and gave freely.

No one knew this better than his 2 best friends...his son Alvin Collins IV and nephew Darek Monroe. Those were his right hand-men. Although Darek and Christina were his niece and nephew, Man played a pivotal role in raising them and saw them as his children.

Needless to say, and everyone including family and friends knew, his heart was his sister Charisse (aka Poopie). They grew up thicker than thieves and leaned on each other their entire lives. No matter what life journeys they endeavored, they both made a pack to stick together until they die….and that they did. She will forever be his Hmm-Hmm!

Even though he had special relationships, he truly did love his entire family. His mother was his rock and she held him down through life's trials and tribulations without question. I know that she still has his back in Heaven.

Alvin will forever be in our hearts and we will hold on to those good memories and meaningful relationships we shared with him. May his soul rest in peace.

Alvin was preceded by his mother Eleanore Bedford and father Alvin Collins Jr. He is survived by his children Alvin Collins IV, Alveina Collins, Carthenia Collins, Destinee Collins, Calvin Collins, Charisse Collins, Tati’Yana Holder-Collins, Ebony Collins, Chance Collins, Kayla Collins, and Symphanie Collins. His Grandchildren Mikayla, Ameir, Zoey and Journi. His siblings Antoinette Glover, Sheila Bedford, Charisse Bedford, Carmen Bedford, Herbert Green, Jason Bedford, Georgetta Johnson, Nina Bedford, Raymond Bedford, Cheryl Collins, Sidney Collins, Keith Collins, Terry Collins, Alvina Collins, Etta Hilton, and Anthony Bedford. His Dad Herbert Green, his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and a host of many cousins and close friends.

Scriptures :

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” — John 14:3

“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
