God called Representative Johnson home on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Representative Johnson was born and reared in New York City and attended New York City public schools. In 1979, he attended North Carolina A&T State University and graduate with a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he remained in North Carolina, and has lived in Greensboro for more than 40 years. Ralph was devoted to his family and loved being with them at family reunions and barbeques. Representative Johnson was employed with Wickes Lumber and Lowes Hardware as a Construction Sales Manager. He was also employed with the Carolina Peacemaker in Sales and Marketing. He later branched out to start his own business, Homesite Remodeling Company. He was involved in the community as Co-chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Northeast Greensboro, serving as a Greensboro Zoning Commissioner, Friends of the Library Board, Founding Member of Eastside Civitan Club, member of Citizens for Economic and Environmental Justice, Vice-President of the Greensboro Groove Phi Groove Graduate Chapter, and past member of Action Greensboro Advisory Board. He is a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church. In 2014, Representative Johnson was appointed to serve out the remaining term of Congresswoman Alma Adams in the North Carolina House of Representatives. In 2015, he was elected to the seat. Representative Johnson ran for office because he was concerned about how the community he lives in was being treated. Representative Johnson signed on as a co-sponsor of thirty-two bills that were signed in to law. He was elated when he heard his bills passed on the House and Senate floor. Ralph was passionate about the plight of veterans, remembering the handicap, recognizing all branches of the military, eradicating bullying in schools, as well as promoting school bus safety. As a member of the North Carolina House, Representative Johnson sits on the following committees: Appropriations; Appropriations Committee on Justice and Public Safety; Education – Universities; Homeland Security, Military, and Veterans Affairs; Judiciary IV; Public Utilities; State Personnel; North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus; and Guilford County Delegation. He leaves to cherish his memory, one brother, Glenn Johnson (New York, NY); a special stepdaughter, Whitney Knight (Winston-Salem); 3 uncles: Amos Reid (Pineland, SC); Prince (Maude) Reid (Miami, FL); and Horace Jacobs (New York, NY); 4 aunts: Candy Johnson (Bronx, NY); Anne Johnson (New York, NY); Emma Johnson (Jacksonville, FL); Christine Reid (Camden, SC); Special family members: Geraldine Collins, Pattie Jacobs, Sylvia Johnson (all of New York, NY); Margaret Ubah (Lugoff, SC) and Barbara Carter (Raleigh, NC); and a host of cousins, family members and friends in Greensboro. Homegoing Services for The Honorable Ralph C. Johnson State House Representative for District 58 covering Guilford County, Greensboro, North Carolina,was held on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1210 S. Eugene Street. Rev. Dr. Cardes H. Brown, Jr. Officiating. There will be a final visitation in New York at T. Carrillo Funeral Service, LLC., 3129 Perry Avenue, Bronx NY on Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 5-9PM. Burial will take place on Friday, March 25 at Mt. Holiness Memorial Park in Butler, NJ.
