Knikia LaShawna Brown-Lord was born in New York City on February 18, 1980 to Lawrence Brown Jr. and Elnora Brown.
Knikia was raised in the Bronx, New York and attended Elementary School PS 126 and IS 166. Throughout her life, she became
affectionately known as KeeKee by all who loved her. As a teenager, she attended Dewitt Clinton High School and later received her General Education Diploma in June, 1997. Knikia then started her career path in social work, working at non-profit institutions, focused on helping the
elderly or assisting people living with AIDS. She later attended the College of New Rochelle where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. She believed in furthering her education and went on to earn two Masters Degrees: one in Adolescent Education and another in School Building Leadership. In September, 2003 she began a career as an educator in the New York City Department of Education. She worked in the Bronx at JHS 219 and in an Adult Education Program where she taught and mentored young adults working to obtain their GED. She loved teaching and ultimately served as an adjunct professor at CUNY. Indeed, she was very ambitious and continued to advance professionally while at the same time being a dedicated wife and mother.
On March 1,2003, Knikia was married to James Lord Sr., the love of her life. Their 12 years of marriage began after they had already
been together for 3 years giving them 15 years of love and light together. They both had children from previous relationships; Alana and James, Jr. and they became a beautiful blended family. From this union, they later had two beautiful children together, Jayda and their adorable infant
Jace.
There are many words to describe Knikia’s personality and sense of self. She was loving, caring, kind-hearted and honest (brutally
honest at times). She was also intelligent and funny. She was a wonderful and genuine person. Without reservation it can be said Knikia Brown-Lord had it all.
She showed her love for her family by continuously giving freely of herself. She set a good example for her nieces, nephews and
students to follow. She encouraged them to pursue their dreams, stay persistent and reassured them that the future is bright. She was Mother to a village of young people from different aspects of her life and she touched them all in a deep and profound way.
KeeKee was the type of person that you could confide in, and she always had the best advice and she would try to help you solve
your problems. She was very compassionate and liked to make a difference. It may be that outside of being a wife and mother that was most fulfilling for her.
Knikia’s father Lawrence Brown Jr. and her oldest brother, Kelvin Smith preceded her in death. She will forever be cherished in
memory by her husband James Lord Sr., four children, Alanna Bussey, Jayda Lord, Jace Lord and her bonus son James Lord Jr. Her loving mother Elnora Brown, sisters Denise Smith, Jacqueline Durrant, Pamela Pierce and Evella Pierce. Brothers, Lawrence Brown III and Christopher Brown, Sister-in-Law Denise Jackson, Four Aunts Martha Jones, Mae Douilly, Helen Riley and Shirley Seymour.
