Ralph Philip Mead Thompson, age 85, beloved father, brother and friend, was called Home to Glory on August 23rd, 2014 after battling an illness.
Ralph was born on July 4th, 1929 in the Parish of St. George, on the Island of St. Christopher, better known today as St. Kitts. He was the first born child to the proud parents of Harold Hubert and Ailiean Thompson.
Ralph loved his family and was very loyal to his friends. He was affectionately called, Sonny, by his family and close friends. He was the eldest of four children and was predeceased by his sister, Eliza Laws. His brother, Arthur and sister, Erma are the only surviving siblings.
Growing up in St. Kitts, Ralph attended The Boys High School. He spent numerous hours at sea working in the Merchant Marine industry. Years later, he migrated to England, employed by Turner Asbestos Firm.
In 1974, he established roots in the Bronx, New York. During his residency, he worked at Bruckner and Bainbridge Nursing Home and was blessed to have established life time friendships. More importantly, Ralph attended the Tremont Terrace Moravian Church and where he served on the Trustee Board. As a devoted member, he did not think it was robbery to volunteer his carpentry talents to repair and remodel numerous projects in the Church.
A few years ago, Ralph learned and enjoyed using the computer. He communicated with relatives and friends via Skype, Facebook and email.
Ralph developed a strong passion for sports and played cricket in high school. He was an enthusiast for soccer team, England Manchester City FC and for baseball’s New York Mets, spending countless hours watching, analyzing and debating games.
Ralph will be sadly missed by his long-time partner and best friend, Joan. Three sons (Peter, Franklin, Dereck), two step children (Sheree, Keith), brother (Arthur) sister (Erma Bailey), Grandchildren (9), Great Grandchildren (6) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4
